The Reiki Story

Information about Reiki prior to the written word can only be gained through channelling, and it is a matter for each of you as individuals to decide what if is you accept as True for you.

Independent Reiki

Independent Reiki teachers often take the stance that Reiki was already ancient in the
1800’s, having been actively used by Buddha and Jesus, and in early Egypt, as weIl as in
civilisations before the written word.

Channel and psychic, Laurel Steinhice describes Reiki as having originated with the root
culture of what became pre-partriachal India. When the Human body for this planet was
designed, Reiki was incorporated into the Genetic coding as a birthright for all people.

Laurel indicates further, that children of early Earth, from the civilisation we call Mu
today, received Reiki training at an early age. When the people of it’s root culture left
the mainland to colonise what is now India and Tibet, knowledge of Reiki went with
them.

The Earth changes that destroyed fust Mu, then Atlantis caused the Healing system of
Reiki to remain the select knowledge of only a few. ln the 19th Century, a Japanese man,
Dr Mikao Usui, who sought the origins of Jesus’ and the Buddha’s methods of Healing,
found them, in the esoteric teachings of India.

Diane Stein an Independent Reiki Master and Hands on Healer of some renown,
recognises, and acknowledges the validity of the channelled information in her book
“Essential Reiki”, and further challenges the reader’s thinking on many aspects of both
the Traditional Usui and Independent Reiki teachings.

A consideration of many Independent Masters is that Reiki is for aIl to use, therefore :
is appropriate to make it affordable to all who request it. Independent Reiki is taught ID
way to facilitate healing at all levels, Body, Mind and Spirit, and actively encoru-ages
seeking of the Inner self.

Independent Reiki teachings encompass both  Traditional and Independent methods
giving the student a strong foundation for their self-healing, and the Healing of others,

Mikao Usui chose to undergo a three week period of fasting, prayer and meditation on Mt Koriyama in Japan. On the 215t morning of his quest, just before dawn, Usui saw a projectile of light coming towards him. He accepted it’s coming as an answer to his meditations, and was struck on the Third eye by the light, losing consciousness for a time. The Reiki symbols were shown to him as if on a screen, and as he viewed them he was given the information about each of them, to activate the Healing energy.

It is said that walking down the mountain, Usui experienced what is Traditionally known as the “four miracles”. Usui then named the Healing energy Reiki, which means, Universal Life Force energy, and took the method into the slums of Kyoto, where he lived for several years.

It is following his work in the slums that Usui formulated the Reiki principles as a spiritual concept. He also formulated the principle of energy exchange being a necessity, in order that a pers on would take responsibility for their own healing, a factor which has gready influenced the fees structure in T raditiona1 Reiki today. Mikao Usui then became a pilgrim, taking Reiki on foot through Japan. He met Chujiro Hayashi, subsequently trained him to Mastership and named Hayashi his successor.

Following Usui’s transition in approximately 1883, Hayashi trained teams of Reiki practitioners, including sixteen Masters in his lifetime.Hawayo Takata came to Hayasbi’s Healing clinic in 1935. Seriously ill she underwear Reiki treatments for a period of four months, and subsequently felt she was completely healed in Body, Mind and Spirit.

Hawayo began her Reiki training in 1936, then ID 1,937 returned to Hawaii, opening her first clinic. After further training from Hayashi when he visited her ln 1938, Hawayowas announced as a Master/Teacher of Reiki and his successor,

ln 1941, Hayashi made bis transition, and Hawayo T akata., now the Grand Master continued on her path to teach Reiki, going to the USA, Canada and Europe. Hawayo Takata made her transition 1980, having initiated 22 Masters. The lineage was continued with Phyllis Furomoto, her grand-daughter, who became the next Grand Master. The rnatter of lineage is still considered extremely important in the Traditional method of teaching and frequently emphasis is placed on the “status” of lineage of training.
